PC Trade-In Singapore: How It Works vs Selling on Carousell

WhatsApp BUILD + your budget Custom PCs built by Zack at Link@AMK. Ready in 1 day if parts are in stock.

Got an old gaming PC that struggles with new games, or one gathering dust under the desk? In Singapore you usually have three options: sell it yourself, trade it in towards a new build, or keep the parts that still make sense and replace only what is holding you back.

This guide covers how PC trade-in works, when selling separately is smarter, and when reusing parts beats both. The service details are on our PC upgrade and trade-in page.

The short answer

Trade-in makes sense when you already want a new custom PC and value less hassle over squeezing out every last dollar. You send specs and photos, get a quote, and if you go ahead the value comes off your new build. Trade-in value is up to S$500, depending on the parts and their condition; there is no fixed figure until we have seen what you have.

Selling on Carousell can return more cash if you have time for listings, meet-ups and haggling. A buyback shop is usually fastest, but you tend to get less. Keeping a good GPU, case or storage and upgrading around it is often the best move if the rest of the platform is still sound. Our upgrade or replace guide covers that decision.

How builder trade-in works

Send specs and photos. WhatsApp us the CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and roughly how old the PC is. Clear photos of the inside and the GPU help. Clean the dust filters first so the photos show the real condition.

Get a quote. We look at what still has demand and what would help offset a new build. The quote is obligation-free, so you can say no.

Decide and offset. If it makes sense, the trade-in value comes off your new build. There is no assembly fee. Builds are ready in 1 day if parts are in stock, and you can collect at Link@AMK or use Lalamove delivery for about S$20-30.

What usually carries the value

We do not publish a used-parts price list, because it would be out of date within weeks. Here is where the value usually sits.

Graphics card first. On most gaming PCs the GPU is the part people still want. A recent card in good condition does more for a quote than anything else.

Then CPU, RAM and storage. A recent CPU with a matching board and decent RAM still helps. NVMe SSDs are useful; old hard drives and small SSDs add little.

PSU and case depend on condition. A quality power supply can count. Heavy dust does not rule out a quote, but in Singapore’s heat and humidity it is worth cleaning before you take photos.

Faults cut value. Crashes, screen artefacts, bent pins or a dead PSU change the picture. Mention them up front so the quote is accurate.

If your parts would clearly fetch more in a private sale, selling them yourself may be the better route.

Carousell vs buyback shop vs builder trade-in

Carousell or other classifieds. Best when you have a desirable GPU or a clean recent system and can handle listings, questions and meet-ups. You often get closer to market value, but it takes time and you will deal with time-wasters. Buying used instead? See our Carousell used gaming PC red flags guide.

Cash buyback shops. Best when you want money quickly with no back-and-forth. The offer is usually lower because the shop needs margin to resell.

Builder trade-in. Best when the old PC is going because a new one is coming. The agreed value goes straight towards the PC you want. It is rarely the highest cash route, but it is the simplest upgrade route.

Protect your data before handover

Do this whether you sell, trade in or recycle. Back up photos, work files and game saves. Sign out of Steam, Microsoft, browsers and cloud sync. Then securely erase the drives using the manufacturer’s supported erase or sanitise process. A normal Windows reinstall or deleting files is not a secure wipe. If you are unsure, keep the drives and ask for help before handover. If a drive has failed and cannot be wiped, tell us before handover so we can agree how it is handled, or keep the drive.

Selling privately or recycling in Singapore

For private sales, meet in a busy public place, let the buyer test the PC, and confirm the PayNow transfer has arrived before handing it over.

If the PC is too old to sell, do not put it in general waste. Singapore has an e-waste recycling scheme overseen by NEA; check the NEA e-waste page for drop-off points and collection options. Wipe the drives first.

When keeping parts is smarter

If your GPU is still strong and the bottleneck is RAM, storage or cooling, keep the card and refresh the rest. Signs a platform is past sensible upgrades include a dead-end socket and a PSU that cannot support a newer GPU. The upgrade or replace guide goes deeper. Comparing builders? FAQ

How does PC trade-in work in Singapore?

With a builder, you send your specs and photos, get an obligation-free quote, and if you go ahead the value offsets a new build. Cash buyback shops inspect on the spot and usually pay by PayNow. Private sales on Carousell take more time but can return more money.

What affects trade-in value?

Mostly the graphics card, then CPU, RAM, storage and overall condition. Dust, faults and missing parts pull the number down. Used-part prices move, so we quote on what you actually have rather than a public price list.

Can I trade in a faulty PC?

Sometimes, but expect a much lower figure or a parts-only assessment. Tell us what fails before you send it in.

Is it better to sell on Carousell or trade in?

Sell on Carousell if you want the most cash and can handle listings and meet-ups. Trade in if you are already getting a new PC and want the old value applied with less hassle. Buyback shops are the fastest option.

Should I wipe my drives before selling?

Yes. Back up what you need, sign out of your accounts, then securely erase the drives using the manufacturer’s supported erase or sanitise process. A normal Windows reinstall or deleting folders is not a secure wipe. If unsure, keep the drives.

Can I reuse parts instead of trading in?

Often, yes. A strong GPU, case, PSU or storage can move into a new build. Tell us what you have and we will say what is worth keeping.
